We don't often think about it, but the family farmer is a business owner. Illinois agriculture products generate more than $50 billion on a yearly basis. Nearly half of our state's grain crop is exported around the world.

John & Holly Spangler welcomed us to their farm on Friday to talk about the business of agriculture. It's something we may take for granted in rural Illinois, so it's valuable to think about it from a business perspective and apply some of the concepts we're learning in the CEO program.

The visit to Spangler Farms is always a highlight of the year - a chance to hear from one of our CEO Board Members and her husband about their roles in agriculture, see a grain & cattle operation up close, and learn a little about how to choose your steak. Not to mention, they treat us like family, bring us into their home, and serve up fresh cinnamon rolls.

Spangler Farms has long been an investor and supporter of the McDonough County CEO Program. Thanks to John & Holly for creating these learning opportunities!
